The History Behind “A canadian exploring Texas”

I’m Ryan, the voice (and occasional “eh?”) behind A Canadian Exploring Texas.

For the first four decades of my life, I grew up, lived and eventually worked just outside Toronto, Ontario. Think long winters, too much hockey talk, and more Tim Hortons runs than I can count.

Then came a career pivot that handed me a rare gift: the freedom to snowbird.

Back in March of 2021, I traded snow boots for cowboy boots, and started to explore Texas. One month in Conroe, Texas, and I was hooked.

Fast-forward three years and I’m still here, chasing county-road sunsets, learning the difference between a good two-step and a bad one, and discovering just how many BBQ joints this State can claim.

Every back-porch conversation, small-town festival, and surprise detour feels too good to keep to myself so I started documenting the journey on YouTube.

If you’re curious how a guy raised on maple syrup and pond hockey on frozen lakes is navigating mesquite smoke and 100-degree afternoons, you’re in the right spot.

Grab a sweet tea (or a double-double if you must), settle in, and come explore Texas with me. One adventure, one “y’all,” and one “eh?” at a time.
